About Jan Hodel-Keane, PhD
Our Expertise
As the Principal Consultant Jan brings a powerful blend of technical, managerial, and scientific expertise to the distillery industry. As a Product Development Lead in distillery automation, Jan has designed advanced manufacturing solutions that drive efficiency and enhance productivity, with a strong focus on cask maturation.
His role involves managing technical requirements, overseeing complex supply chains, and ensuring alignment with strategic goals. Previously, as R&D Manager at West Cork Distillers, Jan optimized production through yield improvements, fermentation enhancements, and innovations in cask management, reducing process variability and boosting operational efficiency.
Jan’s academic background includes a PhD in Chemical Engineering focused on distillation modelling and a Master’s in Brewing and Distilling, through which he developed expertise in quality assessment and the sensory profile of spirits. His technical acumen is complemented by his leadership skills, demonstrated through managing diverse teams and executing projects.
Jan is also an active member of the Chartered Institute of Brewers & Distillers, where he contributes as a board examiner and chairperson of the Irish Section. This combination of hands-on technical experience, strategic oversight, and industry insight positions him as an invaluable asset for guiding operational excellence and innovation in distillery manufacturing.
